September 22, 2009 - Jasemba Expedition 2009
Expedition Jasemba
The Jasemba, with official name Pasang Lhamu Chuli is a 7350 meter mountain on the Chinese-Nepalese border in the Himalayas. Jasemba is standing in the Solo-Khumbu area and is the main mountain of the Nangpai-Gosum massiv, which is a branch of the 8201 meter high Cho Oyu. First ascent was made by a Japanese expedition on October 12, 1986.
In the German mountaineering scene, the Jasemba became famous because of Hans Kammerlander, who was thought to be the first man to ascent it.
Kammerlander climbed the summit in 2007 but wasn’t aware that it had been climbed three times before him.

Project:
Our goal is to climb the summit through the untouched southwall. All four previous ascents went via the less steep northsite or over the southridges. The main purpose of this challenge is to climb without oxygen, fixed ropes and sherpas.

The Team:
Simon Anthamatten, 26 years, mountain guide, Zermatt
Samuel Anthamatten, 23 years, aspiring mountain guide, Zermatt
Michael Lerjen, 24 years, mountain guide, Zermatt

All three team members were raised in Zermatt. The closeness to the mountains has kindled their special love to their mountains. They all work as mountain guides and are able to present an outstanding climbing repertoire. After a successful first ascent in Nepal in 2008, Simon has been awarded the “Piolet d’Or”, the equivalent of an Oscar for mountaineering sports. Michi has successfully climbed the Nanga Parbat as a nineteen year old. Samuel has an impressive repertoire of some of the most difficult climbs in Patagonia, Alaska and Kanada.
The expedition commenced early October and will last for 6-8 weeks.
